Sustainable Scotland Network Annual Conference, Edinburgh

05 October 2017

This year's conference takes place amidst substantive developments in climate change policy, including:

  • a proposed new Climate Change Bill setting more ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction targets
  • publication of Scotland’s third Climate Change Plan, including emission pathways to 2032, expected 2018 following Parliamentary scrutiny earlier this year
  • the draft Energy Strategy which presents a vision for Scotland’s energy future until 2050; and
  • a raft of other proposals such as Scotland’s Energy Efficiency Programme, Local Heat and Energy Efficiency Strategies and Regulation of District Heating.

Public sector organisations and partners have a critical role in initiating, aligning and leading the demanding changes driven by the emerging climate change policy landscape. The SSN Conference 2017 is an opportunity to navigate this landscape with network members, peers, partners and the Scottish Government to discuss and identify:

  • where public sector action can enable broader and deeper impacts in line with national ambitions
  • how to initiate and align collaborative action with partners and key stakeholders
  • what is needed to mobilise strong public sector leadership that delivers action on climate change and sustainability and stimulates purposeful engagement on this pressing agenda across Scotland.
