'Come and Try It' Orienteering event

25 August 2018, Starts: 14:00, Ends: 17:00

'Come and Try It' orientering event suitable for anyone who is capable of walking or jogging along woodland paths. Can be done as a family or in other small groups or solo. Refreshments will be available. All course finishers will get a reward ... while stocks last! Event sponsored by Tulloch Homes.

Orienteering  is an outdoor recreational activity that exercises both mind and body and which involves navigating between set points with a map and sometimes a compass. It doesn’t matter how young, old or fit you are, so long as you are able to walk along woodland paths. You can choose to run or walk at your own pace.

Everyone is invited to this event which will start from the recycling car park at the east end of Culbokie by the entrance to the woods. You can arrive at any time between 2pm and 4pm if you want to take part. Wear light clothes and some trainers or light weight walking boots. Bring a compass if you have one and know how to use it - if not you can borrow one or manage with just a map.

Report

CCT Chair Richard Fyfe writes in their September newsletter

"A total of 112 people came along on to try out our new orienteering course on the last Saturday in August. There was a great community feel to the event which attracted many local families and young people as well as a few experienced orienteers. Those participating chose one of four courses of varying difficulty to attempt. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and many came back with stories of their adventures in trying to find an elusive control post.

"We’d like to thank all of the 18 fantastic volunteers who helped to organize and run the event including several young people. We’d also like to thank Tulloch Homes for sponsoring the event. Congratulations to everyone who took part. A summary of the results is posted on the CCT web site.

"For those that would like to try out the course on their own, a map and instructions can be downloaded from the CCT web site. Alternatively a superior waterproof map can be purchased from the shop or primary school for £1.50."
