We have been experimenting this year with obtaining second crops from the same plants. Its a way of working with nature and produces more crop for less work!

Broad beans- we cut back stems to about 8 inches after harvesting all the first crop and we had a second crop of maybe a third the size of the first. We've saved enough for this year's seeds.

spinach-leave over winter and you get lots of growth in the spring before it goes to seed and you can then leave a couple and save the seeds.

brocholi- keeps sprouting as long as you keep picking for quite some time. When its going woody let a couple carry on and produce seeds.

cabbage- this year we decided to cut the cabbages and leave the stems in the ground. We now have an abundance of shoots as they attempt to 'go to seed'. They taste more like sprouting brocholi but provide a welcome early spring vegetable. We're going to let a couple go the whole way and collect the seeds.

Leeks- Haven't tried this but apparently you can cut off as long as you leave a bit of the central part and they will re-grow. If you leave them to go to seed they are quite easy to grow.

Celery- Most plants we just kept harvesting the outer stalks and they kept going under fleece for quite a lot of the winter.

Has anyone else got any tips?
