Seems like GO is highlighting the need for electricity storage - so maybe, despite appearances, someone in government has spotted that an electric grid dominated by renewables and nuclear needs either storage or a lot of thermal generation - and thermal generation isn't all that good an idea without carbon capture and storage.

See http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2012/nov/09/george-osborne-uk... - and maybe I'm getting thick skinned, but the comments are quite interesting too, I doubted Osborne's commented that a typical Facebook visit uses as much energy as boiling a kettle, but it seems he's not far off.

Here is an attempt to balance the negative press about how much Green measures add to fuel bills. Actually taken as a whole they will reduce fuel bills whereas carrying on with business as usual will lead to increases.
