Local Larder launch a great success
The Muir Hub was packed last Thursday evening for the official launch of the new TBI Local Larder website www.blackislelarder.org . Representatives of businesses advertised on the site and local news media, TBI directors, members and helpers and members of the public enjoyed an event which was the culmination of a great deal of hard work by a great many people in bringing to fruition the new website, which replaces a printed booklet produced by TBI several years ago and long out of date.
Refreshments were provided in the café area, and nearby was an exhibition of enlarged photographs selected from those taken for the website, a mouth-watering display of local produce, and sets of postcards for sale. The new website was available for demonstration and individual use on a large wall screen and a laptop.
During the evening the excellent Hub theatre was used for two showings of two video presentations – a message from local MSP Kate Forbes extolling the virtues of local food, and a work-in-progress preview of a film about food production on the Black Isle by Canadial film-maker Zev Robinson. Quintin Stevens of the Storehouse and Jon Palmer of Cromarty Cheese House each introduced one of the sessions, and both paid tribute to those involved in creating and launching the website: Lara Feldman, for whom developing the website, gathering an enormous amount of information and taking many of the pictures was the major project of her three-month internship, and a tremendous achievement; Plexus Media for building the website; Wendy Price for leading on preparations for the launch; Clive Brandon for setting up the photo exhibition; TBI Convenor Martin Sherring, and others too numerous to mention who helped in various ways to ensure the success of the website and the launch.
Huge thanks are also due to Hannah MacSween, Community Development Manager at the Hub, for her unstinting and enthusiastic help and support both in preparations for the launch and on the night.

Mark Stephen, of BBC Scotland's 'Out of Doors' programme, was at the launch, and there was an item about it in the programme on Saturday 16 September. There were interviews with Zev Robinson, Donna Peacock of Highland Crackers and Nick Mackenzie of the Black Isle Dairy, but disappointingly little about the website. If you missed the live broadcast you can listen to it on the BBC i-Player here.
Wendy says there’s an introductory bit around 10 minutes in with her, Julie and Claire from Nourish. The interviews mentioned above are 53 minutes into the programme.
