Horticultural Day Botanic Gardens Inverness
30 October 2019, Starts: 10:30, Ends: 16:00
From Logie Steading
This year's Highlands and Islands Growers' Horticultural Day is being held in
Inverness on Wednesday 30th October.
A guided tour round the Inverness Botanic Garden will be followed by lunch and 2 very interesting talks in the Highland Rugby Club (just across the car park from the Botanic Garden). Full details below.
The HIG Committee hope you will be able to join us - for catering purposes please let us know if you can come, thank you!
Jim Jermyn is the Property Manager/Head Gardener for NTS Branklyn Garden, Perth. He specialises in Alpine and Woodland plants with an interest in the Genus Meconopsis. For 20 years (from 1978) he was proprietor of Edrom Nurseries, in Berwickshire.
Jim lectures widely in the UK, Europe, Canada and the USA. He has written three books, The Himalayan Garden, Growing Plants from the Roof of the World, Alpine Plants of Europe – A Gardener’s Guide and Mountain Walks in Eastern Europe.
We are delighted that he is coming to speak about Branklyn and the legacy it is to John and Dorothy Renton who developed the garden in the early 1920s.
David Hetherington is the Woodland and Ecology Advisor for the Cairngorm National Park Authority, and author of 'The Lynx and Us'. He helps deliver ecological restoration in the Scottish Highlands though consensus and collaboration with a range of people, including land managers, conservationists, scientists and the wider public.
He is continuing to develop his knowledge of the Eurasian Lynx, to better understand how the species coexists with people in the busy, intensively-used landscapes of modern Europe.
David's talk about the Mountain Woodland in the Cairngorms will be an eye opener for many of us and we are delighted that he is coming to the HIG Horticultural Day
